President Dwight D. Eisenhower once stated that "Politics ought to be the part-time profession of every citizen who would protect the rights and privileges of free people and who would preserve what is good and fruitful in our national heritage." With the next presidential election being mere seconds away, we see now a very beautiful thing in that everyone, especially the youth are feeling inspired to answer the call of their civic duty. With advancements in technology and social media, we now live in a society where one is able to use their voice in the political sphere anytime, anywhere and reach millions of people. Though, there is a catch. One is not allowed to partake in such discourse if one is a Republican.
It appears today, especially amongst youth, that if one be a republican of any sort, one earns the status of persona non grata. We are no longer the peace through strength friends on the right who value family, faith, and country, we are now mere heretics. In a culture where truth is no longer truth yet simply subjective to those who wish to abide by it and where free speech can no longer include anything that offends those on the fringes of society, it's easy to see how those of us on the right quickly became the enemy of the state.
Though why should we be subject to such folly discrimination? Are we to abandon our values and principles in order to save ourselves from social condemnation? If one supports the murder of unborn babies, society labels them a morally superior saint though if one is opposed to illegal immigration and the ramifications it poses to a country, society labels them a crazy racist nationalist. (Even though nationalism is NOT a bad word). It is impossible to win as a conservative in today's eager-to-be-offended culture. If something is said that falls out of bounds of the left's arbitrary rule book of what can and can not be said, it then becomes a game of which label fits Are you opposed to racial reparations? Racist. You don't support sex change operations for minors? Transphobe. Did you say America first? Bigot. There is no longer space for disagreement in the political landscape, only condemnation.
With a country as diverse as America, disagreements are not only inevitable but necessary, in fact America is built on disagreements. Great leaders of our past and present know that disagreements are a vital part of democracy, and we can't survive without them. Yet we see family ties are being cut, friendships ending and, violence running ramped all due to difference in political opinions. Shameful. It is to be understood that if one is incapable of being subject to differing opinions that challenge their worldview without a great stream of fire rushing through their veins then perhaps they should reevaluate some life choices. Attempting to asses ones character based solely on their political views is just as simpleminded as attempting to asses ones character based on their skin color.
I do try to be fair in matters where both sides are equally guilty, yet on this particular issue the correction is required of the left. This is not to say that there is a scarcity of daft politically fueled character assumptions that stem from the right, because there definitely is not. This is to highlight the deplorable actions of the radical left who constantly support censorship and wish to completely silence opposing opinions and dispute truth. Public figures are threatened and attacked, authors and speakers are banned from college campuses, Private citizens have their social media banned or spammed with hate. The list could go on with all of the foolish antics that stem from the lefts inability to be confronted and challenged. Talk show host and author Matt Walsh recently proved such to be true when he experienced his new film “Am I Racist?" being pulled from a certain theater due to "safety concerns for the staff". The film satirically explores the harmful rhetoric of D.E.I warriors and "Race hustlers" and has received stellar reviews from audiences and yet is potentially harmful to staff members of this California theater. A farcical yet revealing declaration.
When we allow such stupidity to permeate our culture we open the door to a multitude of dangerous, foolish ideas. One being that any self respecting black man can never be a conservative and that if he is so, may he be a sell out or a pawn of the right. I myself have experienced someone telling me to my face that I should be ashamed of myself as a black person who supports Donald J. Trump for president. There is no sense to be made of such statements. There is no sense to be made of the smear campaign against modern republicans. There is no sense to be made of someone being accused of hate speech for saying that there are only two genders. There is no sense to be made of violence against someone for wearing a MAGA hat. Yet I suppose there is no sense to be found amongst a senseless crowd.
It is without doubt, that there is a rising army of anti-free speech, woke washed ideologues who seek to destroy all who dare to disagree. This is not America. It's not the America I want to live in. It is not the America I want my future children to be raised in. On the horizon, one can only pray for civic harmony. A nation divided shall be a nation no more. Take this not as an attack, but merely a cry of frustration from one concerned conservative. May we navigate the waters ahead with fortitude and obstinate determination. If we are to be the enemy, shall we fight as such. If we are to be heretics, shall we mount the stake and set the fire ourselves.
